Joshua has enjoyed hunting bull frogs. They are the only thing that he is allowed to shoot whenever he wants. According to the Department of Fish and Wildlife, bullfrogs are invasive and destructive and should be destroyed. Music to a preteen, gun toting boy’s ears.

Usually he gets in the canoe and shoots from that vantage point. He has learned that it is hard to kill them with a head shot because their brain is pretty small. (He has killed a couple that way but it isn’t easy). Rather you shoot them in the middle of their back so the bullet goes through the heart and lungs.

Here is his latest catch. When he kills this many it is a sure thing that he will be eating frog’s legs.

He chops the legs off and skins them.

He soaks them in milk and then dredges them in flour with a little seasoning. He fries them up in oil and voila….dinner (for him, the rest of us don’t eat frog’s eggs)

Joshua says that they taste a little like chicken.

He has always been willing to try new food. I don’t think we need to worry about his survival should anything bad happen. Unless of course the only option for food is chocolate. My first born son doesn’t like chocolate. It has taken me a while to accept that.

Bon Appetite,
