We love all the work that we do here on the farm. Even the boys. They frequently mention how glad they are that we moved here. They even like the work. They think it’s fun.

They helped their dad build a compost bin. It will be so nice to have compost for the garden.

Nicholas and I worked on cleaning out the goat’s stall. We utilize the “deep litter” method in the stalls. Layering new straw on top of old. Eventually the stuff at the bottom will begin to compost and give off a little heat. Good in the winter with cement floors. Since we think Halle Berry will be giving birth in a week or so we thought it was good to clean out the whole thing.

Here is the before picture.

It is a pretty big stall with many layers of straw.

It doesn’t take much to fill up a wheel barrow. Oh, I don’t recommend cleaning a stall in shorts. I was so itchy that day.

Thankfully we have two wheel barrows. Nicholas would take the full one and leave me an empty one.

He would empty the full one and bring it back. It was good team work.

Here is the cleaned stall. Just needed to dry before we put in new straw.

The other big project was mowing and trimming in the lower acreage. Michael sawed off a bunch of low hanging limbs then used the chipper to dispose of the smaller ones leaving the bigger ones for future wood stove fuel.

While he was doing that the boys were driving the tractor with the brush mower on the back. It isn’t hard work but it is very hot and incredibly dusty. I took a turn at it for just a little while. Even with a bandanna tied over your nose and mouth and sunglasses on it is still really dusty work.

Here is what they got done over two days. The really brown sections are what they mowed.

They still have more to do.

That is a sentence that will be repeated over and over again. We still have more to do. No boredom here. It’s a good thing.
